The difference between studying Arabic and learning it.

Most adults who try to learn Classical Arabic start with apps, YouTube, or self-paced courses. They make initial progress. Then life happens. Six months later, they’re at the same level they were at month two.

The cohort solves that problem. You’re learning alongside other serious adults, with live instruction twice a week, accountability built into the structure, and teachers who know your name and your work. The curriculum is designed for adults who want to actually finish what they started.

By the end of the two years, you’ll read and translate classical Arabic texts with comprehension. Not “recognize words.” Translate.

Two years. Four levels. Real reading competence.

Year 1 — Foundations

Read Arabic confidently with full vowels. Understand the three parts of speech. Translate basic Arabic sentences. By the end of Year 1, you’ll have the foundation of morphology and grammar that the rest of Classical Arabic is built on. Levels covered: Arabic 1A and 1B.

Bridge

Summer Review

A bridge between Year 1 and Year 2. Light, structured review of morphology and grammar to keep momentum over the summer break — optional group sessions and targeted drills so you walk into Year 2 sharp, not rusty. No new material, no full course load.

Year 2 — Reading and Translation

Translate paragraphs of vowelled Arabic. Read and understand classical passages. Develop the analytical reading skills that classical texts require. By the end of Year 2, you’ll have read pages of classical Arabic alongside our instructors. Levels covered: Arabic 2A and 2B.

Adults who complete the two-year program may continue into our Advanced year (Arabic 3A & 3B), where they translate Arabic without vowels and complete an independent research project. Year 3 is enrolled separately and discussed when students are ready.

A real program, with the structure to finish it.

Two tracks. Built to compound.

The Adult Cohort curriculum is structured around two tracks: a Fundamentals track that builds your linguistic foundation, and a Reading track that applies that foundation to real classical texts.

A curriculum from someone who started where you are.

Faraz, the curriculum’s lead designer, learned Classical Arabic from scratch as an English speaker. He achieved a Superior rating from ACTFL — the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages, the highest level a non-native speaker can earn. He has spent over a decade refining the pedagogy that takes an adult from “I can recognize the alphabet” to “I can read classical texts.”

The Adult Cohort uses the curriculum he designed. The instructors he trained. The same approach that has taken hundreds of adults — most of whom never thought they could learn Classical Arabic — into real reading competence.

Three kinds of adult learners do well in the cohort.

The serious student.

Has tried apps, YouTube, and self-paced courses. Wants the structure, accountability, and depth that only a live cohort program can provide. Reads classical texts in translation and is ready to read them directly.

The professional with limited time.

Has a demanding career. Doesn’t have hours each day to dedicate to language study. Can commit two evenings a week and 30–45 minutes of daily practice. The cohort is built for exactly this rhythm.

The lifelong learner.

Pursuing Classical Arabic for personal mastery, not for a credential. Wants to engage with classical literature, philosophy, or scholarship in the original language. The two-year program is the most efficient path from "I want to read this" to "I can."

Questions & Answers

A student may stop after one year, but will not receive the certificate of completion. In our experience, students who stop after Year 1 know the information but are still processing it. Students who complete Year 2 are stronger across the board, and have read pages of classical Arabic alongside our instructors. We recommend the full two-year commitment.

No high-pressure sales. The call is a clear conversation about whether this program is right for you — and whether you’re right for the program.
